The August 21, 2017, total solar eclipse will be one for the ages and here at SkyNews we want to feature your photos. A close-up of totality, a wide-angle scenic shot, or eclipse composite—the choice is up to you.

E-mail us your favourite shot and if your photo is judged best overall, you’ll win a Lunt LS50THa/B400 50mm H-alpha solar telescope, courtesy of Lunt Solar Systems. This fantastic instrument lets you safely view prominences and other exciting features on our Sun’s every-changing surface.


Contest Rules:

CONTEST CLOSES SEPTEMBER 1, 2017. There are no entry fees or entry forms.

Only digital images are accepted. A maximum of three entries per person. Submit photos by e-mail to

Images should be in JPEG format, 2,400 pixels wide, and should not have text (such as copyright notices or other information) imprinted on them. Please keep e-mail files under 2MB.

The winning photo (and runners up) will be selected by the editors, publisher and art director of SkyNews and will be published in the November/December 2017 issue of SkyNews.

Please include as many of the following details as possible: camera make and model, lens (or telescope), focal ratio, exposure time, location and processing information. Include your name, phone number, address and your e-mail with the submission.
