Hydrogen-Alpha Eclipse by Ron Brecher

Hydrogen-Alpha Eclipse by Ron BrecherThe October 23, 2014, partial eclipse of the Sun was widely observed and unusually picturesque thanks to the presence of an enormous sunspot group. Guelph, Ontario, astro-imager Ron Brecher captured this dramatic view of the event. From his home, the eclipse occurred as the Sun was setting. “I imaged this just before the Sun set behind distant trees,” Ron reports.

His photograph was recorded in Hydrogen-alpha light, which reveals intricate details on the Sun’s surface that are invisible in normal, “white-light” images. You can view more of Ron’s astronomical images at his web site: astrodoc.ca.
