June 1 Aurora by Steve Irvine
On the night of June 1, those who were fortunate to be under a clear night sky were able to witness one of the most intense auroras of the past decade. The display was visible as far south as Colorado with observers from across Canada reporting that that red, blue, purple and green could all be seen naked eye to nearly the zenith from some locations.
Steve Irvine captured the aurora from near Big Bay, Ontario under slightly hazy skies. Steve used a Canon 50D DSLR equipped with a Canon 24-105mm lens operating at 24mm and f/4. For this image he took a 20-second exposure using ISO 1600.
